Sorcerer 5e Spell Slots

The Sorcerer's Spell Slots: A Guide to Casting Spells

Introduction

Sorcerers are a powerful class in Dungeons & Dragons, and their spells are a key part of their combat and utility. The Sorcerer table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your sorcerer spells of 1st level and higher.

Casting Sorcerer Spells

To cast a sorcerer spell, you must have an available spell slot of the appropriate level. The level of the spell slot must be equal to or higher than the level of the spell you want to cast.

For example, to cast a 1st-level spell, you must have an available 1st-level spell slot. To cast a 2nd-level spell, you must have an available 2nd-level spell slot.

You can also use higher-level spell slots to cast lower-level spells. For example, you can use a 2nd-level spell slot to cast a 1st-level spell.

When you cast a spell, you expend the spell slot used to cast it. You regain all of your spell slots when you finish a long rest.

Optional Spells

The sorcerer spell list includes optional spells available from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. For the sorcerer spell list without optional spells, see the Core Sorcerer Spell List.
